From the time she learned
to hold a pencil Cali Lee
was compelled to produce
images associated with her
most beloved day of the
year...Halloween! Black
cats, dancing skeletons,
and witches riding their
brooms across the sky
inhabited the pages of
many well loved sketch
books kept next to her
bed.
At the young age of six
her mother introduced her
to the world of vintage
Halloween collectibles and
it was love at first
sight. Now, Cali's vast
collection of Halloween
memorabilia remains to be
a constant source of
inspiration for her
artwork.
After studying several
artistic mediums in
college, Cali went on to
create classical style
work in charcoal drawings
and bronze sculpture. Her
work has been shown at
galleries throughout the
west coast and continues
to bring much interest
among art collectors.
"The Queen of the
Night" bronze
sculpture
Three years ago she came
to realize that there is
also a great interest in
modern artwork done in the
style of Halloween
yesteryear. Completely
elated by this thought she
began hand painting and
sculpting renditions of
vintage Halloween images
that she had always
cherished. Her canvases
are unusual antique items
such as clocks, radios,
slot machines etc. that
compliment the charming
vintage images, and have
become Cali's signature
style work. These unique
items embody the idea of 'Hallowe'en
Treasure', to her this
term refers to an everyday
item that has been
artistically transformed
into a one of a kind
collectible, robust with
orange and black, a
keepsake that can become a
treasure to the Halloween
enthusiast.
"Halloween Mirror
of Fortune"
For Cali, it has been a
dream come true to be able
to combine her love of
Halloween with her desire
to create. She strives to
produce vintage style work
that fits seamlessly into
Halloween collections such
as her own. In this short
span of time she has done
commission work for well
known vintage Halloween
collectors, and the
popularity of her work
continues to grow.
In Cali's words
"Being able to pay
homage to the most magical
day of the year through my
artwork, and having others
enjoy it is simply amazing
to me. My work is truly
for all of us who relish
in the pure joy of
Halloween."
